FALL WINTER 2021

SEARCHING FOR THE FIREFLIES

For the brand!s second seasonal collection, MYNOK presents Searching for the Fireflies,
inspired by the Italian film director Pier Paolo Pasolini and his famous text, “Disappearance
of the Fireflies!.
The collection explores the metaphor of light, disappearing, fleeting and fragility. Emerging
designer takes her inspiration from the references of survival and new life in this renowned
work of art. Following on from the brand!s Spring/Summer 21 collection and its themes of
grief, Autumn/Winter!21 is referencing resistance, survival and finding darkness in the light.
The futuristic approach to the collection shows the designer!s ambition to create a
genderless brand, an age in which labels of male and female are no longer relevant. In this
contemporary vision of the future, LED lights are added onto the models nails and ears,
further reinforcing the message of finding light amongst the darkness. The brand once again
uses a limited colour palette, tones of black, red and stone are core to the collection,
amongst modern and futuristic shapes imagined in vinyl skirts, face-masked polo tops, puffer
jackets and jumpsuits. I imagined this poetic light happening in a future where light will
appear not in what we actually think about a contemporary era, what appears in the relics,
with respect to what we perceive as our actuality. In this sense, to obscure the spectacle of
the present century in order to perceive, in that very darkness the light that tries to reach us
and cannot.
